Dave Minden  - Be careful   |2010-03-14 09:03:02
We skied a bit yesterday (Saturday) before enjoying Joso's omelettes. There is
still a lot of snow in the bush, and the trails are more than 99% covered. It's
the 1% you have to be careful about, as conditions are deteriorating with open
spots appearing. Examples are downhill sections on the Red, Purple, Gold/Brown
(you can see that open area from the main trail at the Yellow turn). Be ready to
put on the brakes and navigate carefully - or even take your skis off if
necessary. Conditions should be rated as "poor" throughout.
Ryan  - Wednesday   |2010-03-11 20:38:33
I went out Wednesday night and skied a bit. Once I got past the main trail the
snow was surprisingly plentiful. Only a few bare spots on the blue as of right
now. There are some dirty spot as well. If the rain holds off, the skiing
might be OK this weekend.
Wes  - Spring Ski, There's Still Time!   |2010-03-10 21:00:53
Went out after work tonight and the trails were still not too bad. I skated the
purple and there are a few spots without snow but you can easily ski around
them. The tracks are still skiable but are starting to deteriorate a bit.
Hopefully the forecasted rain will miss NB.
skidaddler   |2010-03-07 09:43:08
Skied the blue. Disapointed that it wasn't groomed. This should be the best time
of year to ski.
Wes  - Don't Miss Out   |2010-03-07 09:12:47
Skated the green between 4 & 5:30 and one word can sum up the outing - awesome!
The weather was great and the snow conditions were reasonable. The base is still
firm but as with any skiing this time of year there are soft spots and glazing.
It depends on where the sun is. Note that the tracks were fast. Tomorrow is
supposed to be +9 so get out there and enjoy it while you can.
Ryan  - Spring is in the air...   |2010-03-06 19:42:06
Spring is in the air and the snow is melting fast. The trails have help up
pretty well considering the lack of snow but there are now some bare spots
starting to show. Enjoy the spring conditions while you can. Around 11 or 12
seems to be the best as earlier things are icy and later things are slushy.
Dave  - good spring skiing   |2010-03-04 18:46:18
The inner trails (Red, Brown, Purple, Gold, Yellow) were groomed and track set
around noon today. Tracks were excellent and stayed quite fast for most of the
afternoon; the main trail out got a bit mushy in the afternoon sun, but most
areas of the trails are shaded and stayed pretty pristine; skating was perfect -
love those rills! Some skied the Blue and found it less than satisfactory as it
had not been groomed; while some sections did soften in the sun, other areas
were boiler-plate hard pan. It should have been groomed! Hopefully we'll see
very regular grooming to keep the trails skiable in this great late-winter
weather.
Dave Minden  - Spring sking conditons   |2010-03-04 08:27:52
Yesterday (Wed. Mar. 3) Tom used the Ginzu on the Purple as well as the first
and last parts of the Blue to correct some problems. As a result, skating was
quite good on the Purple. Tracks were fast. As the day progressed, the snow
softened and skiing was quite reasonable on the inner trails and the Blue. With
the Pisten Bulley, Jack regroomed from the top of the long Blue downhill, and
both the track and skating zones were excellent from there to the end. Jack said
he would be out today gromming and track setting most of the trails; conditions
should be very good this afternoon.
Michel  - Wait 'til next year..   |2010-03-01 16:31:17
Went to Nordic to catch the races . Could not take part , busted arm . Oh well ,
next year will be on my calendar ..PS At least I got to help a bit with the wax
...
Andrew R  - Bluesky   |2010-03-01 16:04:51
Thanks to everyone who went in the races. Makes it more worthwhile for those of
us who put it together. Hope to see you all again next year!! P.S. Thanks to
Ryan for keeping the trail conditions board alive!
Ryan  - Blue Sky   |2010-02-28 14:13:55
Despite the weather and poor snow conditions on Saturday, the weekend was a lot
of fun. That's not true...not too many happy faces on Saturday but hey...mother
nature makes the rules. On Sunday with the right wax combination of a klister
base with a thin layer of fluoro tar on top the classic was awesome - thanks
Michel. Everyone enjoyed the day. A big thanks goes out to everyone who
groomed, organized, or volunteered in some capacity...we have a great club and
you made this a great weekend of skiing.
Ryan  - Beautiful Day   |2010-02-20 19:24:13
Skied Saturday morning. The trails were groomed yesterday and Jack was out again
this morning. The Green has not been better this year. The skiing was
fantastic. Closer to noon the sun was softening the trails a bit. Get out and
enjoy this beautiful spring-like skiing.
Ryan  - Lotsof snow   |2010-02-18 19:53:36
Skied Wednesday night. Lots of snow (about 10 cm) not groomed. Skiing was OK
but the depth of the snow made it a little annoying for skating ie: tips getting
buried, not much glide. The tracks were OK as they were filled in in spots by
all the snow. Weather and the company were good, when they groom skiing will be
great.
Jack Rabbit Johansen  - Glorious Green   |2010-02-16 20:58:21
The classic track on the green today was the best it's been this season. there
are still a couple of holes on the skate lane so be careful as they are filled
in but will not bear your weight. One is just before the hill at the second pipe
lione crossing and the other is at the short cut just past the lookout.
Ryan  - Blue   |2010-02-15 10:39:17
Skied the Blue yesterday...tracks are getting a little sketchy in places. Once
the groomer goes around things should be better. Beautiful day with lots of
people enjoying the weather.
Pierre Harvey   |2010-02-13 17:17:38
Hey, where is everybody? The skiing is great. The skate lane on the purple and
red were groomed on Saturday. The classic track is coated with new snow so it
is much slower. The blue and blue extension are in great shape and much slower
now with the new snow. Not much more than 6 weeks of skiing. See you on the
trails
Ryan  - Green   |2010-02-11 19:25:43
Skated the Green today...was pretty uneven. Beautiful day though. Be careful
at the bottom of the Green downhill, there is a rather large ice patch. It
looks like water may be coming out of the ground.
Ryan  - Fast......   |2010-02-08 21:50:02
Skied the Blue and Ex. Blue yesterday and boy were they fast. The tracks were
rock solid and the skating lane was very firm - you could still get an edge
though. Nice weather and good skiing made for a wonderful afternoon. Tom's a
monster on the blue downhill!
Michel  - Green trail heaven   |2010-02-06 17:32:42
What a day . Bert had his daily diet of Green and the conditions were super .
Get out and enjoy some amazing skiing . The trails are much better than the
amount of snow there is in town .
Dave Minden  - Red trail and inner trails   |2010-02-05 18:40:07
Although the grooming report doesn't indicate it, most of the trails except the
Green were groomed and re-set today. The Red was perfect for step turning the
first big s-turn and the back downhill was a fun ride. The Easy-Way-Out was
extremely fast - watch out for a few jiggles in the track at the very end where
it merges with the main trail. The Purple also had fast tracks. We skied the
Green the other day; it's very uneven and needs a visit from the PB and the
plow.
Dave Minden  - Blue Ex and Blue Light   |2010-02-03 08:24:43
We've been skiing the Blue Ex so many times that we'd (almost) forgotten how
beautiful the middle part of the Blue trail is. Excellent tracks throughout when
we skied it yesterday. And the 'long blue downhill' is in great shape for
staying in a tuck in the tracks all the way - not quite so icy and fast as it
was a few days ago! It's nice to see that fewer skaters seem to be skating over
the classic tracks.
Ryan  - Beautiful day   |2010-01-31 20:09:37
Skied the Blue today and it was very nice. The skate lane was firm with just a
dusting of fresh snow on top. Also did the Brown with my son and it is in very
good shape as well. It's easy to forget how nice of a trail the Brown is.
Michel  - Cold morning   |2010-01-30 14:17:19
Great morning to sli , albeit quite cold . The inner trails were great and the
Green was surprisingly good . The tracks are a liitle shallow but the snow quite
controllable on the downhill .
Ryan  - Blue   |2010-01-28 20:40:29
Skied after work today. The inner trails had just been groomed and the tracks
were pretty good - a little chunky in places. The skate lane looked very
nice...no brown spots up the main trail. Past the Blue/Brown turn however the
Blue was very snowy. In some places the wind had totally filled the tracks with
snow. This made skiing a little bit more like work today. Once the wind dies
and the tracks are re-set the skiing will be great!
Andrew R  - Wed Night   |2010-01-28 00:09:03
Skiing this evening was great. Trails were groomed this morning and show no
evidence of the rain we had. There was a surprising amount of fresh snow on the
trails too, nearly 3 to 5 cm. Skied the Blue, Purple under the moon light and
yellows under the lights. Tracks are certainly solid, skating was a bit slow
with the fresh snow but the trails are indeed in excellent shape considering the
weather we just had.
Michel  - Thanx Andrew   |2010-01-24 11:26:37
Caught sunrise on the Green . Because of Andrews wonderful work the skating was
amazing this morning . The Red was awesome as was the Purple . Hopefully Mudder
nature spares us .
Andrew R  - Nice day today   |2010-01-23 23:08:40
I agree with Wes, the blue-x was nice, quite hard packed. The inner trails were
in dire need of a freshening. They got that today and the red/purple/blue (not
blue-x) were groomed again this evening. The blue downhill was soft, but better
than the death trap it was in the morning. Should set up nicely tonight though
and not be too soft. Enjoy tomorrow before the rain!
Wes  - Skied the Blue-X   |2010-01-23 18:23:18
Weather was great. As the trail report states, it is hard packed but a thin
layer of powder from earlier in the week made for a smoother ski. It is not icy.
Andrew groomed it from the big downhill to the clubhouse so it is well tilled
providing control. If anything that part is a little soft now. Lets hope the
rain stays away.
Michel  - Skiing the Green   |2010-01-20 17:44:58
Bruce and I had a great classic ski around the green today , Wednesday the 20 th
.As it is often the case , more snow on top ..Still fast and bumpy but very
pleasant .
Maret  - green on sunday   |2010-01-17 19:49:08
The green was great for classic on sunday, but the skate side looked really
rough. There are lots of leaves (beech, oak and spruce twiglets) in the tracks,
as well as woodchips from the pileated wp's, so not good for the soft wax.
Jan Vandermeer  - Green Trail - Skate Lane: Skating not recommended   |2010-01-16 20:32:09
I skated the Green today (Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010) and would not recommended it
to others. Conditions have been soft the last three days and the crust has been
broken numerous times on the section between the two pipeline crossings. I ended
up skiing on half the skate lane and/or double poling in or out of the track for
a significant portion of this section.

Until we get more more snow and the
grooming crew can get out and rework the trail, it is not the joy that we
normally expect on the Green.

However the track looked great and I would
recommend this technique for skiing the Green.
Ryan  - Wed. Night   |2010-01-14 09:30:38
Skied Wednesday night. The very light freezing drizzle made the inner trails
and the purple fantastic. Come on out Wed. nights at 7:00 if you want to skate
ski with a good bunch of people. We work on some technique and have lots of
laughs.
Dave Minden  - Field and Inner Trails   |2010-01-12 11:32:42
Once again, thanks to Kevin and/or Jack for preparing the instruction area and
inner trails for the Nipissing phys. ed. ski school. Conditions were absolutely
perfect Monday morning with crisp teaching tracks on the field. My group skied
the Gold and conditions were perfect.
Ryan  - Green   |2010-01-09 17:19:53
I did a Green today with a friend. He skated and I used my classic skis. The
skate lane has firmed up but it was very slow going for him. The tracks are
much better than a week ago and only a few spots remain where there is no track.
There are still some rough spots on the skate lane. Great day to be out and
the trails are shaping up nicely.
Jan Vandermeer  - General Comments   |2010-01-08 10:10:41
First of all, kudos and congratulations to Andrew, Kevin and Wes and any others
involved in bringing this service to the website. A great idea1

Karl G. and I
skied the Brown yesterday. We have limited time with the high school after
school program. The trail had not been groomed since snow falls in the last two
to three days and was a bit soft with poles breaking through the crust in a few
places. This is, however not a criticism, the ski was fantastic! This trail
seems to be under utilized but provides many rewards. Skiing with Karl kept me
pushing to keep up. The snow was not deep enough to catch tips while skating.

If you are looking for a shorter distance ski that is less travelled with
unique character and a sense of isolation, ski the Brown.
Klistermister  - Green trail Jan 7 2010   |2010-01-07 19:26:03
The track on the green trail is improving with each snow fall. The pole lane
and the skate lane are still soft but should tighten up with cold weather. Jack
and Kevin groomed today and cleared many of the overhanging branches. Still a
couple of wet spots and some sections need brushing but overall it's worth
venturing out on the green trail
Dave Minden  - Inner trails and field   |2010-01-04 16:55:58
Pristine conditions welcomed the first group of Nipissing University phys. ed.
students for their first round of lessons this morning. Thanks, Kevin, for the
excellent teaching tracks on the field; the inner trails were at their
"mid-winter best", and the students expressed appreciation.
Ryan Travers  - Blue and Green   |2010-01-04 11:09:15
I skied the Blue yesterday twice, one skate and one classic. The skating was
tough going as it hadn't been groomed in a few days. The classic was generally
quite good. The wind had blown snow into the tracks in some places. Once the
groomer goes around it should be very good. On Staurday I did the Green. The
wet spots were all gone and seemed to be frozen up nicely. Still a lot of
places which need a lot of snow though. Skiable with older skis.
Tom Cook   |2010-01-03 11:33:30
I skied the green trail on New Years day. I would not recommend skiing the
trail until we get another snow fall. There are many wet spots, the track is
very soft and the skis break through in snow covered holes. You are taking a
chance of breaking a ski. the skating lane is very soft and rough. There are
sections that haven't been brushed but will be done soon.
Andrew R  - Ski Conditions   |2010-01-02 22:14:08
I didn't ski today but I'll start the new conditions board! The conditions were
nice yesterday. I classic skied the blue trail. The new snow helped and the
tracks were firm. A little slow on the blue itself but fast where there was more
traffic.
