Let's make snow!!

$27,549 raised by 30 donors
$37,500 goal

We’re excited to announce a fundraising campaign to bring snowmaking to our club! As with most Nordic ski clubs, we rely heavily on natural snowfall, which can be unpredictable, especially early in the season.  Last season we had the opportunity to try a snow making gun for a couple of days thanks to Winterdance Dogsled Tours (see photos below).  The trial was a success, and the extra snow allowed us to establish a solid base in the stadium and fill several thin spots on the trails. It also allowed us to ensure we could host the very well received and attended Ontario Cup races held mid-January.

Machine made snow is more resilient than natural snow, resistant to temperature fluctuations and rain events, which makes it ideal for establishing an early season base in the stadium and the trails near the Clubhouse.  It is also excellent for patching thin spots, filling holes, and building a base in areas where we’d normally struggle to shovel scarce natural snow from the surrounding forest.

With your help, we can have our own snowmaking equipment which can extend our ski season, improve trail conditions, and create a more reliable winter experience for everyone.

Why Snowmaking?

  • Provide earlier and more consistent snow coverage near the clubhouse and on perennial thin and rough spots on the trails
  • More reliable early season conditions to support youth programs, lessons, and race events
  • Ensure trails stay open even in marginal snow years

Our Goal: $37,500+

The initial cost of getting snowmaking equipment at the club is $75,000.  This money will cover the cost of a state-of-the art, energy-efficient snowmaking fan gun (from a Canadian supplier), along with water supply infrastructure and electrical hookup to a rental generator.  The 2025/26 budget approved at the AGM included expenditure, with the hope of offsetting the cost with fundraising.  We’re setting a goal of fundraising 50% of the costs.
