We are reaching out to the membership with the opportunity for folks to help at a wonderful event coming up in early 2027. The City of North Bay will be hosting the 2027 Special Olympics Provincial Winter Games from Jan. 28 to 31, 2027 (a full year away still). North Bay Nordic is excited to be hosting the Nordic ski racing component of the event at our Club. We are certainly well-versed in hosting races (we hosted this event in 2015) and know that when the time comes, we can always rely on our committed membership to step up and assist. Leading up to this event, however, the Games Management Team is asking for us to have 2 (or several) volunteers to take on the roles of Venue Captain(s) and Technical Lead(s).
The Venue Captain will take the lead on non-race components such as schedules, meals, parking and other logistics at the Club. Our club volunteers are well-versed in how events like this are run and will be providing the boots-on-the ground support for this person during the event.
The Technical Lead will be someone who can manage the competition elements (like race set up, timing) and will liaise between the Special Olympics Provincial Technical Lead and the race officials at the Club. This person should have knowledge of Nordic ski racing and will work with and rely on the expertise of the Club volunteers who will set up and run the event during the competition days.
These roles will require meeting with the Games Management Team in the lead up to the event, and liaising with club volunteers to pull the event together. It is certainly possible that each role could be held by more than one person (many hands make light work!). We are confident that the many people who always step up to volunteer at North Bay Nordic will be more than willing to provide lots of back up.
