North Bay Nordic

Trails

The North Bay Nordic Ski Club maintains a network of cross country ski trails prepared and maintained for both classic and skate techniques. All trails start and finish at the clubhouse and range in distance from 0.8 to 18 km.  There are lights for night skiing on approximately 2.5 km of trail.  The club also maintains a network of snowshoe trails with two main loops, the Beaver Meadow (1.5 km) and the Ridge at Nordic (4.5 km).

Cross Country Ski Trail Descriptions

Yellow Trail (1.3 km) and Sprint Trail (0.8 km)

Yellow Trail (1.3 km) and Sprint Trail (0.8 km)

The short distances and relatively flat terrain of these trails make them ideally suited to both novice skiers as an introduction to skiing as well as to more advanced and elite skiers as a warm up and cool down. The Yellow and part of the Gold are lit for night skiing.

The short distance and relatively flat terrain of the Gold Trail makes it ideally suited to both novice skiers as an introduction to skiing, as well as to more advanced and elite skiers as a warm up and cool down. The last half of the Gold is lit for night skiing.

Purple Trail (3.0 km)

Purple Trail (3.0 km)

Our most popular trail, suited to all levels of skiing. It features gradual uphills, rolling terrain and a scenic return through a coniferous forest. The trail may be a bit challenging to the novice skier as it includes a few more rolling hills than the yellow and gold trails.

Blue Trail (8.0 km)

Blue Trail (8.0 km)

This is one of the more scenic trails with some challenging climbs and descents. After an initial 3 km climb, the skier is rewarded with several kilometres of rolling terrain with many spots to stop and enjoy the view of High Lake and the nearby cliffs.  It finishes with a long downhill run of almost 1 km.

Blue X (9.0 km)

Blue X (9.0 km)

The Extended Blue Trail (Blue X) adds and extra section of the Green Trail to the Blue Trail.  The extra distance provides an extra gradual climb up and descent back to the regular Blue Trail.

Green Trail (18.0 km)

Green Trail (18.0 km)

This trail branches off from the Blue Trail and leads you into a more remote wilderness setting.  The middle portion offers rolling hills through decidous and mixed forests on top of the escarpment.  Just past half way there is a spectacular view of Trout Lake from “The Lookout”.  Most skiers carry a water or juice bottle, plus snacks or a lunch due to the length of the trail.
