2010 Kilometres for Kids! (Saturday, March 13th) |
This annual event raises money to assist physically challenged kids in North Bay and area. If you are not familiar with this program, every cent raised stays in the area and helps provide these childrent and their families with the resources to make their lives as normall as possible ... things like the purchase of specialized sports equipment or a wheelchair ... or the construction of an access ramp. It is the mission of the Rotary Club of North Bay to see that no child is disadvantaged when all it takes is a little effort to provide a better lifestyle. |

Reflections on a Year of Skiing - Adam Birosh |
Can you believe the ski season is already winding down? This is my fourth year as a member of the North Bay Nordic Jr Ski Team. Our team competed this year at the Ontario Cup races in Thunder Bay, Ottawa, Onaping, and the Winter Games in Huntsville, as well as OFSAA, and the Midget championships this past weekend in Midland. As I look back on the 2010 ski season I remember everything from two athlete injuries at the Easterns to Nadine Perron’s gold medal sprint in Onaping, and to my OFSAA gold. It has been a busy and rewarding season, and the North Bay team brought home many medals. Four of our ten athletes have just been named to the Ontario Development Team. This team is made up of the top 44 racers age 14 and over in Ontario. This is quite an accomplishment for such a small team. Our midgets are also some of the best in the province, and represented the North Bay club on the podium at every race. |

The snowshoe trails are cleared and ready for use this season. There was only minor maintenance that had to be done this year with several small trees to be moved and a bridge to be partially rebuilt. The one exception was a huge deadfall near the east end of the Ridge at Nordic Trail which required minor rerouting around its protruding root system. Many Nordic members have yet to check out these trails. Why not do so one day when ski conditions are not ideal - or when you just want a change of pace? If you don't have your own shoes, rentals are available at the Clubhouse for a reasonable rate. And don't forget that if you have visitors or friends who would be more comfortable walking than skiing this makes a fine alternate activity and can be as easy or as strenuous as you wish. Snowshoe trail descriptions are available in the clubhouse or under the Trail Maps menu tab.

Trail Report - December 10, 2009 |
The 2009/2010 ski season is here! The trails were groomed today with the Pisten Bully and are in excellent (early season) condition. There are a few wet spots and dirty patches but considering the amount of snow we received the trails are in great shape. Watch out for the odd soft spot and rock. The base of snow is still very thin. To protect the base and let the wet spots freeze the trails won't be groomed again until we receive more snow. The excellent conditions are certainly a testament to the years of hard work by the trails committee and dedicated volunteers. The new bridges built over the summer are a welcome sight, especially the final bridge which has been made wider and safer. For a few pictures click Read More. |
